FICFA's mission is to promote and make Francophone cinema accessible to Francophones across Atlantic Canada, while raising awareness of Acadian cinema.  The city of Moncton was selected to host this unique event in Canada and pay tribute to those who have persevered for centuries to preserve their linguistic and cultural heritage. The community wanted to make the event annual, and in 1992, Film Zone was incorporated and has since been responsible for organizing FICFA, its main event.
